We’ve come so far and we’ve stayed so strong; We just gotta keep going
March the 8th is the day the world celebrate women’s achievements; but it shouldn’t be the only day to do so. Supporting women doesn’t mean you’re showing weakness, instead you’re acknowledging the effort the generations of women have gone through to make it here today as equals.
Opinions don’t matter; and it shouldn’t stop us
I’m just another voice; another reminder that we can and should be standing tall in all that we do without the fear of being judged or criticised.
Who can we be?
Anyone. We are capable of anything with the right amount of effort and push. I have so much respect and appreciation for the beautiful souls around me - grandmothers leaving their homes during the war to foreign countries for survival, tenacious mothers who are content with what they already have as long as they have enough to feed their families, sisters wholeheartedly supporting each others’ shining moments and the list goes on. Their strength, kindness and care for others inspire me to be better and to do much more.
What can we do?
We can do anything we set our minds to. There shouldn’t be any doubt about your ability to make something happen. Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t. I haven’t personally felt at a disadvantage when competing for roles and I should count myself lucky. But that shouldn’t be the reason for ignorance of the many women who still become the object of ridicule when fighting for leadership positions. I’m not saying that men don’t go through the same situations either, but why can’t both have an equal fighting chance?
Where can we go?
We should be able to go anywhere and wear anything we want without being catcalled. That’s the one thing I find most frustrating. Why should the fear of violence restrict us from going places and it not be the same for the male gender? Because of that, daughters tend to get stricter curfews as compared to sons (due to safety reasons). And the cycle of inequality unconsciously continues.
Just some food for thought.
