Incoming food belly


What I love about growing up here is the local food, the relaxed lifestyle and that the beach isn’t too far away.


People would ask “what do you do when you go back home” and my answer remains the same, always - along the lines of food and family. How else would you spend your time at home?


Instead of writing about my trip back home, I’ll show you.


A mixture of local and Asian delicacies you can find in Kuching:





Filipino-style crispy pork knuckle (Crispy Pata) served with curry and plum sauce












Stir-fried crab with egg











Char Kuey Teow


Flat rice noodles stir-fried with soy sauce, prawns, beansprouts and cockles









Ais kacang with gula melaka


Shaved ice with red beans, a mixture of jellies and sweetcorn served with palm sugar


Cucur udang (prawn fritters) and fried tofu served with chilli sauce







Tomato soup with deep fried fish fillets and fish balls; and dried rice vermicelli noodles










Bak Kut Teh (Pork Bone Tea Soup)


Pork ribs stewed with garlic cloves, star anise, fennel seeds, cinnamon and coriander








Teochew-style Steamed Fish


A flavourful balance of saltiness and sourness from the garnishing - ginger strips, salted plums and vegetables, tomatoes and mushrooms










Butter prawns












Kampua mee


Dry noodles tossed in pork lard, soy sauce, sweet soy sauce, white pepper and shallots








Black bean kuey teow with beef


Flat rice noodles in black bean sauce gravy with beef and vegetables


Kai See Mee


Fried noodles with shredded chicken, shredded cabbage and mushrooms








Pork liver congee served with egg, minced pork and shallots










Char Kueh


Stir-fried radish cake with egg and preserved turnips









Kolo mee (Originated from Sarawak)


Egg noodles tossed in pork lard and shallot oil, served with minced pork, barbecue pork slices and shallots









Midin (Only in Sarawak)


Jungle fern stir-fried with garlic













Sarawak Laksa


A coconut-based broth with a blend of shrimp paste, red chilli, sour tamarind, lemongrass, garlic, ginger and a mixture of herbs and spices






It's pretty much an eating cycle during my trip home but not complaining cause I am fully satisfied with all the food I've been missing for awhile! Till next time, home.
